Bus passes, transit routes, medical rides, and low-cost transportation options for youth and families in Southeast Michigan

Getting Around Southeast Michigan

Know Your Transit System

SMART Bus serves the suburbs of Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties. DDOT covers routes within Detroit. Use both systems' trip planners online or via phone to find what routes serve your area.

Ask About Bus Pass Assistance

Many social service agencies and caseworkers can provide free or reduced-cost SMART or DDOT bus passes. If you work with a case manager or social worker, ask them specifically about transportation assistance – it is a common but often unadvertised benefit.

Medical Rides Available

If you have Medicaid, you may qualify for non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) to get to doctor appointments, dialysis, and other healthcare visits at no cost. Call your Medicaid managed care plan to arrange rides in advance.
